It started life as a quiet little fishing village, and was discovered by blonde French bombshell Brigitte Bardot in the 1960s, when she visited the town with her Brazilian boyfriend. The rest, as they say, is history.

Floating in the swimming pool is Italian restaurateur Stefano Monti. Monti can also be seen in the photograph by Slim Aarons, 'Pousada dos Buzios', which is a sister image to 'Buzios' and was taken within the same photograph shoot.

Also found in Portugal, the pousada in Brazil refers to a family-run inn, one that offers quiet, understated luxury alongside a generous intimacy that derives from its humble size.
