Rare and exceptional French crystal centerpiece; from the massive hexagonal base departs a sturdy stem shaped with skill and elegance; on its top is placed a hexagonal crystal bar that has at different heights three pieces of metal with screw grooves; to the first two, the crystal tops are screwed, while on the last one is screwed the inverted drop knob that has the function of a handle. The grinding and cutting of the base, stem, and pommel have been wonderfully and extraordinarily done, their luster is unparalleled; the two plates have elegant shaping and the carving designs are understated and refined. An object of rare beauty, with a refined and exquisite design and workmanship of the highest standard. The centerpiece was created by the Baccarat Company between 1900 and 1905 and bears the Company's signature below the base. We should point out that this object has not been acid-polished as is customary long ago in all crystal factories. In acid polishing of crystal, the object is immersed and rotated in a solution of sulfuric acid, fluoridic acid, and water, and in a short time, all the defects left by previous processing are removed. This is a fast, industrial operation that allows costs to be lowered considerably, with fair but not excellent results. The polishing of our centerpiece was done by hand with a cork bark wheel wet with water and pumice, to make the surfaces more transparent, and finally, the polishing was achieved with a felt wheel wet with a paste of water, iron oxide, and cerium oxide; a manual work done meticulously by skilled craftsmen with a result not comparable to modern processes. Baccarat was founded in 1764 in the town of Baccarat, located in the Lorraine region of France. Initially, the company produced mainly window glass, mirrors, and glasses. Over the years, it gained a reputation for producing high-quality crystal, including tableware, decorative objects, and lighting fixtures. Baccarat has a long history of using traditional glassmaking techniques combined with innovative processes. The company is known for its skilled artisans who employ various methods such as hand-blowing, cutting, etching, and polishing to create exquisite crystal pieces, always maintaining its commitment to craftsmanship and quality. Baccarat has become synonymous with luxury and elegance, and its crystal products are highly sought after by collectors, enthusiasts, and luxury consumers worldwide. The brand's exceptional quality and craftsmanship reputation has helped it establish a significant presence in the global luxury goods market. Baccarat products are often found in high-end hotels, restaurants, and prestigious events worldwide. The company's crystal chandeliers, chalices, vases, and decorative objects adorn homes, palaces, and museums, demonstrating its enduring influence and appeal. The centerpiece is in excellent condition. Measures diameter cm.22, height cm.42. This piece has an attribution mark,
