Sober and elegant French nightstand in the Napoleon III style; on the front, it has three comfortable drawers of equal size, the front is shaped and is surrounded by a gold wire frame; the round knobs on the drawers and the guards that are at the end of the legs are brass; also in burnished brass is the refined railing that protects the upper marble top; the four legs are tapered toward the bottom and have grooves along the body; the entire commode table is made of oak, a wood that due to its strength and toughness is used for the construction of fine and durable furniture; the black varnish makes it exclusive and personal; the marble used for the top is a "Bianco Gioia Venato" from Carrara; Carrara marble is a type of marble that is extracted from quarries in the Apuan Alps in the territory of Carrara (Italy), universally known as one of the most valuable marbles in the world. It is one of the varieties of the famous pietra viva, and it is no coincidence that all the greatest sculptors and artists in history (Michelangelo, Donatello, Bernini. Canova) made their most famous works from this excellent variety of marble, with such elegant hues that it seems almost ethereal. The nightstand was produced in the Napoleon III style between 1880 and 1885 by a craft workshop in the French town of Liffon-le-Grand located in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region. The Napoleon III style took up the more serious and austere forms of the First Empire. Still, the Eclecticism, which distinguished the period, made it more graceful, refined, and elegant, reflecting and well representing the socio-cultural and economic period that France was living at the time. The object has been treated by hand with ancient restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and is in excellent condition. Measures width cm.39, depth cm.28, height cm.73.
