Nice 18th century inlaid country French wardrobe or armoire. The 2 doors open to an interior that has had shelves … more Nice 18th century inlaid country French wardrobe or armoire. The 2 doors open to an interior that has had shelves added. I think this was used as an entertainment center at some point. The 2 shelves are made of 3 pieces of wood. What shows as the current top shelf needs to be in that position because of the hook that keeps the left door closed. You could also remove the shelves and put in a pole to use clothes hangers. Piece has 3 stars inlaid across the top below the removeable cornice. There is also an inlaid heart with a cross at the bottom below the doors. There are shrinkage splits to the panels on the sides. The right rear upright has a crack in it along the grain of the wood. There are other shrinkage cracks throughout consistent with age and changes in temperature. This can be seen in the 9nth photo. The cornice is appropriate but a 20th century replacement. The right hand door is slightly warped toward the top as can be seen in the 5th photo. It closes at the bottom. There is a lock but I dont have the key. Slight variations in color due to use and being polished or not over the years. The sides are darker than the front. Nice brass hinges on the doors. Doors are removeable. Piece is 78 3/4" tall and 26 1/2" deep at the deepest point(the cornice), and 24" deep at the case. Piece is 53" wide at the cornice and 46 1/2" wide at the case. less
