An extraordinary French Regence period carved giltwood mirror, made in France circa 1715. This stunning piece features a dramatic arched crest with finely carved floral motifs and a cherubic figure seated on a cloud, strumming a lute. Flanking the top are two large stylized phoenixes, symbols of renewal and transformation, beautifully integrated into the scrolling acanthus design.
The frame showcases deeply detailed openwork carving throughout, with floral garlands, scrolling foliage, and Rococo-inspired flourishes extending into the sides and base. Two additional phoenixes appear at the bottom, balancing the mirror's vertical composition with a sense of elegant grandeur.
This mirror retains its original mercury glass beveled plates and exquisite water-gilded surface, now richly patinated with time. A magnificent example of early 18th-century French craftsmanship, this piece brings historic charm, opulence, and sculptural artistry to any space.
