Arnold Hoffman, Jr. (1915-1991) A twentieth century painter, silkscreen artist and master printer, Arnold Hoffman Junior was the son of the artist Arnold Hoffmann (1886-1966). He studied art techniques at both the Art Students League and at the National Academy of the Arts, under such masters as Olinsky and Kroll. Beginning in 1940, he was a frequent exhibitor with such national institutions as the American Water Color Society and the Audubon Artists.
In 1942, he joined the staff of The New York Times Magazine. He remained with the magazine for the next thirty years and became its art director. Upon his retirement in 1972, he founded the Screen Print Workshop in Springs, East Hampton, NY printing his own fine silkscreens there, including works in our collection. He became the master printer for such artists as Esteban Vicente, James Brooks, Robert Dash, William King and Robert Gwathmey.
His paintings and prints have been exhibited at galleries in New York and on Long Island, and is included in the collection of the Museums at Stony Brook, New York, and elsewhere. In 1995, noted art critic, Helen A. Harrison authored the book, "Silkscreen: Arnold Hoffmann Jr. and the Art of the Print".
