Often … Read more Japanese Kaidan Tansu also called Kaidan Dansu or Kaidansu (staircase chest) from Middle Meiji period ( 1880's - 1890's). Often used in a bedroom or kitchen, this tansu has an incredible amount of storage. It is very sturdy and is fully functional as a staircase as well as a cabinet and chest. The drawers have forged iron hardware and one hinged door features a sliding slat lock. The rich patina and signs of use make this piece all the more charming. It separates into two pieces for easier transport.
