A beautiful French Louis XVI ormolu (fire gilt bronze) table / mantle clock.
Made of bronze around 1840-1860 from bronze. The clock consists of different floors.
It stands on 4 rosettes feet which makes that it stands sturdy . The legs are attached at a thick original marble base. Original marble in dark green colour.
On top of the marble the base of the clock begins with a beautiful bonze pice that is beautifully decorated with typical French lousy XVI decorations and flowers. , a real piece of beautiful art from that time. At the top this layer is closed with bronze. In the middle of this top there is a small floor that is holding the movement and dial. The movement has been cleaned and checked by a professional clock maker.
The movement is signed.
This clock has an open movement, which means that if you look in the middle of the dial you can see the movement. The dial is signed by "Ferdinand Berthoud Paris" and is protected by a glass door.
Ferdinand Berthoud (born 18 March 1727, in Plancemont-sur-Couvet, Principality of Neuchâtel; died 20 June 1807, in Groslay, Val d'Oise), was a scientist and watchmaker. He became master watchmaker in Paris in 1753. Berthoud, who held the position of Horologist-Mechanic by appointment to the King and the Navy, left behind him an exceptionally broad body of work, in particular in the field of marine chronometers. You can see him at the forelast picture.

At the top we find an eagle with spreaded wings. He is protecting the clock and looks threatening. The eagle is, just as the rest of the clock very detailed. He sits on a big branch that ends at both sides of the clock. He is holding it with both of his feet.
A beautiful piece of art from that time. The bronze has been cleaned by a professional clockmaker.
