Large brown patina reglet print entitled "La Science" by Auguste Moreau (1834-1917).
A renowned French sculptor and brother of Mathurin and Hippolyte Moreau, this artist is known for his romantic approach to classical works.
Here, he creates a moving sculpture of a young woman raising a torch above her head. Dressed in a loose, flowery gown, carried by the wind, she stands proudly, head raised. At her bare feet, we find a compass and a ledger. She leans against a globe supported by foliage. The sculpture is signed Aug. Moreau on the terrace and stands on a circular marble base.
