Carpet, kilim sumak, wool and silk, 1990 - Turkey
Magnificent Turkish kilim sumak carpet, made of wool and silk around 1990. The ornamental pattern consists of a maroon and navy blue border with geometric motifs. The central and main area has a cream-colored background with three large geometric shapes surrounded by small animals with schematic lines. It is a piece of great beauty and character, a true gem that adorns any room thanks to its patterns and exquisite color combination. Absolutely on trend in current design and interior decoration. It can be placed on the floor or on the wall as a tapestry.
A kilim is a brightly colored, thin oriental rug, usually small in size, handmade from natural and durable materials. Unlike reversible kilims, sumaks are single-sided. The name sumak derives from the ancient city of Shemakja (Shamakhi). Although sumak kilims are woven throughout most of the East, those from Iran, Turkey, the Caucasus, and Afghanistan are particularly unique.
