This beautifully ornate, hand-crafted sugar pot features sculpted flower-petal handles, a sculpted leopard lid, and vibrant floral patterning on the … Read more This beautifully ornate, hand-crafted sugar pot features sculpted flower-petal handles, a sculpted leopard lid, and vibrant floral patterning on the body of the piece. The pot was meticulously hand-sculpted and painted by artisans of the Ardmore Ceramics studio, Paulina Hadebe and Bongekile Ntombela (aka Bongy). While in Jabula High School, Bongy/Bongi enjoyed art classes with Gabi Nkosi from Caversham Press, and Wiseman Ndlovu from Ardmore. Bongy won an art award from Michaelhouse for painting and joined Ardmore’s Winter School programme in June 2015. This piece was produced in 2001. Ardmore Ceramics is a culturally significant ceramics studio, located in the Champagne Valley, KwaZulu-Natal, contributing significantly to the global appreciation of contemporary black art from South Africa.
