This Empire design is flanked with two detached columns with ornate brass rings at the capitals and feet. The secrétaire has a superb flamed mahogany veneer on the large flat areas, providing an outstanding decorative effect.

There are abundant gilt brass mounts that frame each drawer and the abattant front while also providing decorative detail to the handles and keyholes. When down, the Abattant is covered with soft leather writing surface which reveals the "theatre" composed of 6 drawers opening by brass pull knobs, and a large pigeon-hole veneered on all sides.

The lower part of the secrétaire has three large locking drawers. Above the abattant front is another full-width large drawer with key lock covered by the original dark grey speckled marble top.
