A product of the William IV era, this distinguished breakfast table exemplifies the period's penchant for robust design elements and functionality. The table captures the essence of the period with its unusually bold elements and the emphasis on wood's intrinsic allure.
The table features a top that can be tilted, a practical design choice intended to conserve space when entertaining guests. Its original brass mechanisms facilitate the top's rotation, showcasing the splendid book-matched veneers of crotch-cut mahogany. These veneers exhibit a vigorous and fiery grain framed by a cross-banded border that provides contrast through its textured “spooled" mahogany edge.
A substantial ring-turned column with pronounced reeding supports the tabletop. The base is decorated with swirling gadrooning and branches outward over four meticulously carved animal paws, each resting on original castors. This table is not only stunningly beautiful but also continues to serve as a versatile and engaging piece for contemporary use.
