Swiss painter of landscapes, portraits and still lifes.
He was considered one of the artists who spread impressionism in Geneva.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva, then followed by a stay in Paris, where he discovered impressionist painting which excited him. Louis Rheiner trained in Nice with the engraver Marcellin Desboutin.
At the beginning, he was, in Geneva, supported by the critic Louis Duchosal, whose portrait he painted.
In 1891, some of his studies accompanied Ferdinand Hodler's "Night" in the exhibition dedicated to him at the Electoral Building, after this painting, first accepted by the members of the jury of the Municipal Exhibition, then he was refused by the Administrative Council of the Library of Geneva.
He settled for health reasons in the south of France each winter where he died.
Many landscapes of the South of France have been preserved from him.
