The basket it has very beautiful and intricate weaving details and showcases a rounded body and a squared, fixed handle at the top. Adorned with floral patterns of peony buds and blooms, a bird, and other decorative elements on its surface. Designed in the typical form for a "guo da li" ceremony, this chinese betrothal or marriage basket is painted with traditional motifs featuring peony buds and blooms. Guo da li ceremony: the guo da li ceremony, a crucial chinese betrothal tradition, signifies the formal meeting between the two families. Taking place a few weeks before the wedding, the groom presents various gifts in the basket, symbolizing his sincerity in marrying the bride and ensuring her well-being after marriage. The motifs, such as peony buds and blooms, symbolize fertility and prosperity. Condition: the basket shows wear consistent with its age and use.
