Measures 14" x … more A wonderful still life painting of flowers in a vase by renowned Swedish artist Uno Vallman (1913-2004). Measures 14" x 17" including frame. Vallman incorporates a rich and vibrant palette of sky blue, cherry blossom pink, crimson, magenta, and forest green in a background of black onyx. This stunning painting is bursting with movement through Vallman's use of instinctive brushstrokes creating a nice texture (see close-up photos). Presented in its original gold-colored frame which complements the painting nicely. In excellent condition.

ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:

Uno Vallman (1913-2004) was born in Norrala, Hälsingland on March 24, 1913. He began to study art in 1936 at Otte Sköld's painting school. In 1939 Vallman was admitted to the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm and developed a colourful naivist style of painting under the influence of Isaac Grünewald and Sven Erixson.

Vallman's first noticed appearance took place in 1945 at Färg och Form in Stockholm, which together with a solo exhibition at the Konstgalleriet in Gothenburg in 1946 became his breakthrough. Uno Vallman has his own expression and language in his painting. In the 1960s, Vallman was sometimes called the "Nordic Picasso" by French art critics when he had exhibitions in Paris. Vallman was one of the original members of the avantgarde movement called COBRA, which was a group of artists responsible for moving art forwards into a modern age.

Recurring motifs in Vallman's paintings are roosters, flower still lifes and landscapes. He has also depicted famous Stockholm motifs. His greatest work of art is undoubtedly the many monumental paintings in churches, schools and administrative buildings.

Uno Vallman's works are included in the Swedish National Museum, The Swedish Modern Museum and other museums. His works are also included in the collections of Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and the Tessin Institute in Paris.

Uno Vallman passed away on September 5, 2004 in Stockholm.
