An extraordinary piece of functional sculpture, this vintage modernist fireplace tool set combines substantial clear Lucite, polished chrome and graphic black accents in a wonderfully architectural composition.
The design centers around a massive transparent Lucite support rising from a sleek matte-black metal platform. Polished chrome fittings extend from the upper section, suspending the three long fireplace implements so that each appears almost weightless against the clear structure.
The set includes a broom, shovel and poker, each designed with dramatically elongated slender handles finished in black with polished chrome terminals. When displayed together, the strong vertical lines create a striking architectural silhouette reminiscent of a miniature modernist skyscraper or abstract sculpture.
The contrast is fabulous: crystal-clear Lucite against glossy chrome and deep black, creating a sophisticated monochromatic palette that feels unmistakably glamorous yet remarkably contemporary more than half a century later.
At an impressive 38.25 inches tall when fully assembled, this is not a fireplace accessory that disappears beside the hearth. It is a commanding decorative object in its own right.
The set would be exceptional beside a Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Modernist, Brutalist, Contemporary or Minimalist fireplace, and equally striking in a sophisticated loft, executive office, hotel-style interior or architectural residence.
Condition: The set remains in excellent vintage condition.
The clear Lucite is beautifully preserved with no chips, cracks or crazing noted. There is only nominal age-appropriate surface wear, including minor scratching consistent with vintage use.
The chrome and black handle components also present beautifully, and all three fireplace tools are included.
A fabulous combination of form and function — sophisticated enough to be displayed as sculpture while remaining a fully usable fireplace set.
About Alessandro Albrizzi
Italian-born designer and aristocrat Baron Alessandro Albrizzi became particularly associated with the glamorous use of Lucite and acrylic in decorative furnishings during the 1960s and 1970s. His designs often combined transparent geometric forms with polished metal and bold color, creating pieces that bridged Modernism, Pop-era design and Hollywood Regency glamour.
Today, his Lucite furniture and decorative objects remain highly sought after by collectors of twentieth-century design.
Any photographs showing furniture or additional décor are included only to demonstrate styling and scale. Only the FP tool set is included with the purchase.
