The top is easily interchangeable with another top in the event a marble top is desirable. This original top is quite beautiful. Not exactly sure off the type of wood. Possibly Mahogany. Beautiful book matching work on it. Could possibly be modified to give it a slimmer appearance and possibly a knife edge. As it sits it is also nice but has some wear. See less
