In Venice, Tomiolo attended the Carmini School of Art and the study of a restorer. In 1934-35 he began to take courses at the Cignaroli Academy in Verona. He then had to leave the academy because he was sent to the war of Abyssinia. On his return, from 1937-1940, he settled in Rome and came in contact with the artists of the Roman School. It was recalled during the II World War. During a license he decorated the chapel "Bragadin" in Padua and, in Porto di Legnago, the apse of the chapel of the Salesian College. Both works were destroyed during bombing. In 1945 he settled in Milan where he participated in the artistic events of Corrente and taught at the School of Applied Arts of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, the Liceo and the Accademia di Brera.
