Original “Eric” Charcoal Fashion Illustration of pleated skirt with cardigan sweater, dated 1949. Measures:19 x 26 with frame, art opening 15 x 24 . Most likely a sketch for Vogue or Harpers Bazaar. (See attached litterature from New School files- most likely from same sitting.) Condition is commensurate with age, and artwork is an important part in the golden age of fashion illustration. (Carl Oscar August Erickson (1891-1958), also known as Eric, was an American fashion illustrator. From 1925 to his death in 1958, he collaborated with British and French Vogue. He also drew advertisings for brands like Coty and Elizabeth Arden. Vogue’s 1958 obituary said it best: “To the Paris couture an Eric drawing was the most desired of representations for their designs; to the young, beginning fashion artists, Eric was a minor god, the creator of a fostering climate for fashion art.”) See less
