This is an extremely rare vintage electric signet sign from the 1930s/1940s that was used by the Masonic Rainbow Girls organization within Masonry and Freemasonry. This collectible item holds historical significance as a piece of fraternal organization memorabilia, making it a valuable artifact for those interested in Masonic history and symbolism. With its unique design and historical value, this antique electric signet is a rare and sought-after item for collectors of Masonic and Freemasonic artifacts or for those looking for a decorative "conversation" or statement piece. These signs were used during the teaching of Rainbow Girls lessons.
It is fully functional—all lights and buttons work as they should. It is highly recommended that it be re-wired to modern day standards for safety. There may be surface dings, scratches, or scrapes consistent with the item's age and materials.
This came out of the Masonic Lodge in North Adams, MA. Also known as the Houghton Mansion, which has been touted to be one of the most haunted buildings in New England and has been the subject of numerous Ghost Hunters episodes on TV. It was the former home to one of the first mayors of North Adams. Sign and column are centered on a hollow wood “block” base.
Sign:
51” tall (complete base with sign)
30” at widest point (sign)
4” thick (sign)
Base only:
11” deep (front to back)
16.5” wide
8” wide (column portion of base)
4.5” deep
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG), a Masonic youth group used the rainbow colors (Love/Red, Religion/Orange, Nature/Yellow, Immortality/Green, Fidelity/Blue, Patriotism/Indigo, Service/Violet) to teach character values, with signs often featuring these colors. Masonic symbols include the iconic rainbow arc and the shaking hands which represent Masonic "handshakes" (actually secret Grips) that represent recognition, a bond of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, and a symbolic commitment to core Masonic principles like Friendship, Morality, and Trust.
