The tray simply fits down on the top of the luggage rack-style stand. Canvas belts, plastic floor guards tell me that this isn't technically an antique piece. It reminded me of Bombay Company or Pier 1 in the 90s/2000s. Normal usage, everything works as it should. So easy to fold up and stash in the closet until needed for entertaining!
