Published in the U.S.S.R by Progress Publishers, 1972. This is the First English language edition. The book is in very good condition with a clean hardcover in the original photo illustrated cardboard slipcase. Clean wood-grain cloth boards with gold decoration on cover, gold lettering on spine. No fraying or wear.
This was translated to English from the Russian text by Kathleen Cook. Information about and photographs of buildings, both secular and sacred, in Northern Russia. Photos are in full color and black and white. Chapters include Transonega, the White Sea Coast, Rivers Svid and Onega, Vologda and Lower Vychegda, the Northern Dvina and Pinega and along the River Mezen. Gold endpapers printed with medieval images of buildings and people.
There is an inscription in the book in Russian, dated 2/26/75. The slipcase is clean but has edge wear and is loose on the top.
