The extraordinarily refined and highly decorative painting depicts an 18th-century allegory.

Centrally and in the foreground we find a group of merry winged putti dancing in circles at a tree to the rhythm of three playing putti above.

In the lower left background we can appreciate a woman being abducted by a man in a chariot.

In the upper left among the clouds, on the other hand, we find Venus with a torch kissing Cupid surmounting the temple of Vesta, still existing in Rome today and the place where the Sacred Fire was kept.

A hilly landscape can be seen in the background.

The anonymous painting can be dated late 19th century. See less
