Bronze statue of Shinno, from the '70s-'80s, Japan.
Dimensions: height 33 cm, width 22 cm, depth 24 cm.
In ancient Chinese mythology, the ruler Shen-nong tasted plants to investigate their efficacy and shared this knowledge with others. As a result, Shen-nong is revered as a god of medicine. In Japan, statues of Shen-nong (Shinno in Japanese) can also be found displayed in the homes and shops of long-established medical practitioners and pharmacies.
