Tschageny flemish pastoral landscape 1849. Oil painting on oak table represents a bucolic scene, a landscape with animals and a shepherdess, of great pictorial quality; a peasant rests in the shade of a tree, a bucket and an amphora lie on the lawn on his left, sitting with his back resting on a fence, the shepherdess is intent on caressing the muzzle of a compliant cow. At his feet a sheep with the lamb is crouched.

this landscape is signed and dated on the bottom right charles philogène tschageny (brussels 1815-1894); brother of edmond animalier and anatomist painter, author of the beef anatomical atlas for the use of artists, whose anatomical watercolored tables are at the catholic university of leuven in louvain-la-neuve. Charles philogène tschageny was the pupil of eugène joseph verboeckhaven the world -renowned animal painter of the time, specializing in horses painting in particular and the animal genre.
active as a painter and engraver in the netherlands, where he won a gold medal at the salon of brussels in 1845 and 1846 at the salon of antwerp, but also in england, london, oxford and cambridge, where he moved in the years 1848-1849 . He established himself as one of the best romantic artists, portraitists of animals by consolidating an excellent commercial fame, thanks also to his patrons such as king guglielmo ii of the netherlands, leopold i of belgium and maria enrichetta of austria. The same english queen vittoria, her great admirer, in 1851 purchased a painting for her collection.
tschageny became a member of the royal academy in 1865. This piece has an attribution mark,
