Standing on four small volute feet, this painted cast iron jardiniere has a shapely presence highlighted by the undulating opening … more Standing on four small volute feet, this painted cast iron jardiniere has a shapely presence highlighted by the undulating opening comprised of volutes and rosettes. From France in the early 1900s, the jardiniere is adorned with a tree trunk medallion inset within an oval. The cartouche is flanked by floral swags, curled leaves, and a scalloped leaf that hangs down below the base of the main body. Both short sides are adorned with a protruding scalloped shell above volute leaves, continuing the themes inspired by nature. The jardiniere has a white finish, but some losses to the paint have allowed brown and orange patina to accent the silver-colored metal. The long sides have production stamps on the interior (“No 12”), indicating that it was a certain model developed in the early 20th century.
