The image evokes the English countryside from long ago, with a cottage in the woods, a man in great coat and hat riding his horse on a stone bridge while another fellow relaxes against the bridge and watches the water go by, his horse in the background. This delightful rural scene is surrounded with a wide applied floral border on the rim and around the base.
The piece is marked on the back "Enoch Wood's English Scenery Wood & Sons England" with a distinctive Woods Wares Logo as shown in the pictures. This dish, circa 1930s, is an estate piece, showing not only an idealized image of the English countryside but also reflecting the taste and decor that might be found in an American home in the 1940 and 50s.
