Handmade with wool circa 1920-1930, this rare 8x9 antique hooked rug believed to originate from the United States—from a rare new curation of pieces in Rug & Kilim’s collection.
On the Design:
A work of folk art and Americana, this piece and the few like it that remain were made primarily by German immigrant weavers. Each piece woven by the weavers boasts a different, unique play of the country sensibility with a European feel to it. The rug enjoys beige and red tones underscoring an all over floral pattern, as well as pictorial representations of birds in the field corners.
While rare in all rugs, hooked rugs like this one are especially desirable for being one of the styles where animal depictions are celebrated, though each piece remains one of a kind. They also have a delicious texture, almost like a boucle, that’s inherent to the technique.
Condition::
The rug enjoys great condition - a rarity for both the technique and the period it belongs—an extremely collectible piece ready for the floor.
