This Men of History mug was in production from 1940-1960, Royal Doulton number=D6115. This character is based on the English navigator and Admiral, Sir Francis Drake [1540-1596] who lived during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Drake was instrumental in warding off the attack of the Spanish Armada and was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the world. Backstamp reads: " Lion, Crown, Made in England over Globe with entwined Ds and Royal Doulton England. A next to crown, 7 next to globe." Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Height from top to bottom at highest=5-1/2 inches, Width from side to side at widest=8 inches, Depth from front to back=6-1/2 inches. This beautiful jug has been well cared for, gently used and displayed and is in excellent vintage condition, free from chips, cracks, crazing or other imperfections.
