She received her Master’s Degree in Geology, University of North Carolina. Some might ask how she happened to become an artist after being trained as a scientist. Her childhood on a farm created in her a lifelong love of animals and the great outdoors and a desire to recreate the beauty that she saw around her. Lee's work is therefore a melding of wildlife and contemporary art. She likes the juxtaposition of the tightly rendered figure immersed in a sea of color and shapes suggestive of something timeless and vast. Mims hopes to bring the viewer to contemplate the boundlessness of nature, the beauty of each and every creature no matter how great or small, and give them the hope that beyond us there are worlds and worlds too numerous to count with wonders impossible to imagine.
