Fully restored by a museum quality restorer. From interior designer's personal collection. Signed E. Galiany, one of numerous pseudonyms he took on because of an exclusive contract with a major gallery. Other pseudonyms included L. Dupuy, J. Lievin, and E. Lefevre, A. Michel, and others which are listed Benezit. Besides his interest in Parisienne street scenes, he also enjoyed painting surrounding villages and marine scenes.

Born in Paris, Eugene Galien-Laloue is recognized as one of the top masters of French impressionist street scenes. Gifted beyond measure, he became well known at the turn of the century for capturing the very ambiance of Paris on his canvas. Working in gouche with light, delicate strokes, he had the ability to give the illusion of detail in an impressionistic style.

Custody- This painting was purchased in France in the shops surrounding the Drouot Auctions in the heart of Paris. I am a designer and purchased this painting from a reliable dealer. I don’t remember the name of the shop that I purchased it in as it was many years ago. I had it restored before I attempted to list it on Chairish. The restorer was S. Cohen from S. Cohen Fine Art, Dealers, Restorers, & Appraisers of 19th and 20th Century French, Continental & American Works of Art. He is located in San Diego and Chula Vista, California and does restoration work for museums and was highly recommended to me.


The frame is original and was also restored by Mr. Cohen. The materials are wood and gilt. This painting is signed by the artist by one of the many pseudonyms that he used. See less
