More information about Robert Feasley:
Robert Feasley was born in Downers Grove, Illinois in 1926 and grew up in California. He attended the University of Oregon where he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1951. Important teachers were David Mccosh, who studied at the Chicago Art Institute, which was heavily influenced by the School of Paris. He also studied under Max Beckmann at Mills College in the summer of 1950 and attended L’Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris in 1953, during a year of study and travel in Europe.
On his return in 1953, he settled in the Northwest where he began his teaching career at what is now the University of Puget Sound. In 1958, he became a member of the Fine Arts Faculty at Washington State University.
His work, whether it is inspired by the landscape of Eastern Washington, the village and countryside from Spain, Paris, Florence, Siena, Greece and Portugal or Northwest cityscapes, oceanscapes and clam diggers, represents an interest to record his surroundings. Draftmanship represents an important prerequisite for much of his visual motivation. Characteristic of his painting is the use of “drawing in color.”
