Hesland trained as a furniture maker in Norway and later studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He worked for several years in Denmark before returning to Norway in the early 1950s to establish his own furniture workshop. This particular piece is entirely crafted in remarkably beautiful Bookmatched Rosewood and features a highly angular composition of intersecting planes and gorgeously achieved proportions.
