Silvio Poma Mountain Landscape with Strolling on the Trail late 1800s oil painting on poplar plywood depicting an animated pathway of passersby in a wooded foothill countryside. Well-dressed people strolling and children playing in the meadows hint at a Sunday day. The composition of this landscape with late 19th century figures is well balanced. In the background, the buildings of a village can be glimpsed at the foot of the mountains. The painting is signed at lower left in cursive S. Poma and is in good condition. It is presented within a modern gilded frame measuring cm. 31 x 44 cm. 5 deep.
Silvio Poma (Trescore Balneario 1840 - Turate 1932) is known as a landscape painter with a repertoire of lake views, often going to Lake Como and the small village of Lierna to paint, intimate in character, also showing the influence of his contemporary Filippo Carcano in their realistic approach. The period from 1883 onward saw an increase in activity with systematic presentation of works in national exhibitions and lasting success on the art market. This piece has an attribution mark,
