This listing is for a breathtakingly beautiful large bas relief tympanum/lunette depicting eight cherubs made out of heavy-duty resin. Measures 44" wide at the base and stands 20" tall at its highest point in the center. About 1 3/4" thick. The finish is done in beautiful shades of bronze, brass, and gold. What looks like dust settled into the recesses is in fact part of the finish - it does not wipe off.
I'm not entirely sure of the age, but based on the backing, this piece looks to be 1960s or 1970s - not an antique.
I'm not sure what the backing is made of, but it feels a lot like Hardie Board. It has a pre-strung heavy-duty wire and fasteners, making it ready to hang.
No chips, cracks, or unusual wear. One section of the backing board looks like it started to separate from the lunette at some point in the past and was re-glued. I have included a close-up of that area - you can see the line of the newer glue. (Of course, this is on the back and will not be seen when this piece is hung). On one area of the bottom rim is an area the looks like a crack. (See close up photo). But upon very close inspection, I am fairly sure this feature occurred during manufacturing - whether intentional or not, I don't know. I pressed on it very firmly, and it doesn't "give" at all.
For indoor use only.
This type of unique neoclassical architectural element is hard to come by. It is a weighty work of art.
