Striking vintage abstract tabletop sculpture combining solid brass with clear acrylic strands in a dramatic vertical composition reminiscent of a stylized harp, lyre, or surrealist musical form.
The sculpture features a tall, elegantly elongated brass body with a pierced oval opening at the top and sharply sculptural lower contours. Fine clear acrylic strands stretch vertically across the open front, creating a delicate linear counterpoint to the substantial metal form and giving the piece an airy, almost architectural presence.
The contrast between the warm golden brass surface and transparent acrylic strands elements is especially effective, allowing light to pass through the sculpture and emphasizing its strong use of negative space. Viewed from different angles, the form shifts between musical instrument, abstract figure, and modernist architectural object.
The work is signed by the artist, though the signature is currently illegible. Stylistically, the piece relates to the postwar modernist and surrealist studio-sculpture tradition, with affinities to sculptors working in biomorphic metal and mixed media during the 1960s and 1970s. Because the artist has not been conclusively identified, no specific attribution is being made.
The sculpture was originally found mounted on a damaged black-and-white marble base. To preserve and properly present the work, it was professionally remounted on its current black powder-coated steel cube base, which gives the sculpture a clean, gallery-style presentation while providing excellent stability.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no damage to the brass sculptural body or acrylic strands. The current black steel base is a later replacement and not original to the sculpture. Please review photographs carefully for surface details and natural patina.
Any photographs showing furniture or additional décor are included only to demonstrate styling and scale. Only the sculpture is included with the purchase.
