Lovely green and gold French “tremeau” mirror in the Neoclassical style, mid‐ to late 19th century. Carved wood with a thin gesso ground, overlaid with original green paint (the soft olive tone you’re seeing) and bright water‐gilded highlights. The upper panel is ornamented with a carved ribbon‐and‐foliate spray, a motif drawn directly from Louis XVI decorative vocabulary. Below is a single rectangular mirror plate, set into a matching gilded sight-frame. Overall good structural soundness: the frame is straight, joints tight, no major cracks or repairs visible. Surface wear is appropriate for a 150 +-year-old revival piece—small losses to both the gilt and the painted ground, a few fleabites to edges, and subtle “foxing” patina to the mirror glass.
Excellent condition, old glass, would be a stunning focal point in any room.
