This is an oil on panel framed in a beautiful heavy gold frame. The upper left corner and upper right corner are missing. The frame is in good condition. There are a few small chips. The whole should be restored and cleaned.

Henry Jacques Delpy was a landscape painter of the Barbizon school, like his father, whose pupil he was. He embarked on an artistic career at a very early age. He specialized in waterscapes, particularly variations on riverbanks.

His works are marked by the influence of his father and of Charles-Franois Daubigny (1817-1878): he paints melancholy undergrowth, ponds, the banks of the Oise and Seine rivers, and landscapes that are always full of sensitivity and silence, over which a heavy sky lays with a luminosity and bold colors that, to repeat, are not lacking in poetic emotion. His light, rapid and transparent brushstrokes are reminiscent of those of the Impressionists. The artist achieves a true synthesis between this movement and the Barbizon school, instilling that calm, serene atmospheric ambience so particular to him. This piece has an attribution mark,
