Hand knotted in wool on cotton, a 3x7 Persian Shiraz runner rug circa 1970-1980 - latest to join Rug & Kilim’s vintage selections.
On the Design:
This piece is from an exciting new series of vintage Persian rugs and runners in our collection, particularly for their subtle departures from more traditional designs.
This is one of the most rare and collectible in the new collection for being a pictorial design with a repeat of ewers (or jugs) in its field. Unlike many other Persian rugs that favor the minimalist tribal motif of this symbol, this is a more Tabriz (or even European) take on the symbol—with bird motifs on each vase. In general, the rug is almost a tribal take on the more Victorian depictions of this symbol - seen in 19th-20th century antique rugs.
This masterpiece is an interesting work of folk art as much as a gorgeous and comfortable runner. Keen eyes will note warm brick red underscoring beige and bright blue tones of a complementary nature—gorgeous and unusual alike.
Condition:
The rug thrives in great condition with a mild element of shabby chic—perfectly ready for the floor.
