Serge mouille born in paris in 1922, serge mouille is today considered one of the greatest lighting designers in the world. He developed a talent for drawing and creation very early on and was the youngest student of his time to be admitted to the school of applied arts at the age of 13. Master goldsmith, serge mouille learned the art of modeling metal with a hammer thanks to his mentor gabriel lacroix and worked for several goldsmith houses in paris. It was his meeting with jacques adnet, director of the compagnie des arts français, that would mark a turning point in his career. In 1951, jacques adnet commissioned serge mouille to create a “large light fixture” for his south american customers: the first three-arm floor lamp was born. This innovative luminaire in molded black steel with organic shapes will influence his famous series of "black forms" and will forever mark the history of design. Serge mouille then passes from the status of master craftsman to that of creative artist. At the beginning of the 1960s, serge mouille decided to radically distance himself from everything he had created until then by developing a series of light columns with fluorescent tubes. In 1963, he stopped producing lights to devote himself to teaching. Suffering from tuberculosis, serge mouille died in 1988 and his widow, gin mouille, decided to continue to bring his art to life by publishing under license his most emblematic creations. Each copy is made in france by éditions serge mouille and has an engraved serial number, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
