The front face is decorated with a flaming torch, entwined with ribbons and a crown of branches of thorns in gilded and chased bronze. The gilded bronze mounts are decorated with a frieze of palmettes that run from top to bottom of the sheath. The emblems of Napoleon such as the torch, the crown and the palm can be seen.
