This arc and columns rug is used by Muslims for prayer hours. Through the use of a carpet, the idea is to create a place of prayer, pure and delimited from the surrounding world. Some of these rugs carry what is called a Mihrab motif (prayer niche motif), which designates the direction of Mecca. For practical reasons, prayer mats are always small.
