The … Read more This is an amazing piece of Americana… Circa 1850’s authentic antique leather water bucket with original handle and hardware. The bucket is personalized with a first name initial, last name and number in gold hand lettering. Upon further research I found that every home was required to have a water bucket in the event a fire broke out in the town. Every available homeowner was called into action hence the owners name and bucket number. It also could have been a fireman’s name and number. The bucket stands approximately 12” tall and 18” to top if the handle. The bucket is actually in very good condition considering its age believed to be from the early 1800’ to mid 1800’s. This extraordinary piece was obtained from the estate of a retired New Jersey firefighter who had collected fire memorabilia throughout the course of his life. After his passing I purchased a large number of unique and interesting items from his estate. It is now time to pass this treasure on to the next person to care for and that can truly appreciate the history and significance of this amazing piece. See less
