Fine Early 19th Century Inlaid Damascus Games Table
About
A fine early 20th century inlaid Damascus games table. This Syrian games table has an enormous amount of inlaid work. The table opens up to a backgammon board, a chess board and a flat surface for a card game. There is storage space to hold your chess and backgammon pieces. rare antique Syrian game table. The entire piece is intricately inlaid with different species of exotic wood and mother-of -pearl. The game table top opens by slightly lifting it and giving it a quarter clockwise turn, on its off-center pivot point. Then when you open the hinged top, the surface is completely centered on the table base. From there you can open the first hinged center panel to expose the chess/checkerboard. If you want to play backgammon, then you simply lift all 3 panels up and over, leaving the 2 larger panels hanging over the edge of the top. There are some of the inlaid pieces that are missing, but that is very common with antique pieces like this and it does not detract from the beauty or the value of it. The green velvet cover for center panels has deteriorated due to its age. This is an incredibly fantastic find. The dimensions below are for the table when it is completely closed. The table is 33.75"W x 33.75"D x 30.15"H when opened up.
