Artist’s Biography:
Svend Åge Larsen, Visual artist and ceramist, was born in 1931. He lived in Koblerne between Kulhusvej and Kohave north of Jægerpris. He was a Teacher at Thorstedlund Academy of Arts.
Svend Åge Larsen was educated at the School of Applied Arts and the Kgl. Porcelain factory. He mostly worked with wax pastels, but has also done some oil paintings.
Skoven Kirke north of Jægerspris was rebuilt in 1983-84 after an extensive fire. Architect Torben Hjort from the architectural firm Mangor & Nagel created a simple and bright church room, and Svend Åge Larsen was responsible for the decoration of part of the church room with a glass mosaic altarpiece and with large fields on the nave's long walls of stoneware tiles decorated with holy water crosses.
Frederikssund Art Association and Frederikssund Music Association organized music etc. in October 1984. in the newly refurbished Skoven Kirke, and Svend Åge Larsen talked about his artistic decoration, the color scheme etc.
In 1988, the Art Association held its spring exhibition with works by Svend Åge Larsen. The exhibition was called Stoneware & Pictures - see list of works.
As part of a major renovation in 1989 of Frederikssund Church, the old altarpiece was removed and placed in the aisle. Instead, glass mosaics made by Svend Åge Larsen were installed in the three windows in the apse.
Svend Åge Larsen passed away in 2004.
