Livio Seguso Glass Sculpture, Livio Seguso Flying Tern Sculpture, Seguso Art Glass Bird Sculpture, Seguso Arte Vetro, Murano Art Glass Bird
This listing is for a stunning 20th century Murano glass sculpture in the shape of a stylized flying bird or tern. The sculpture was created in Murano, Italy most likely in the 1970's or 1980's by the master artist, Livio Seguso of the well-known glass house, Seguso Arte Vetro (A.V.). This flying bird is predominantly in clear crystal with a very light grayish tinted head. The piece is signed by the artist. The piece is quite substantial and weighs 12 pounds 10 ounces and measure approximately 7-1/2 inches wide by 7-1/4 inches deep at the wings and stands 22 inches tall. The sculpture is in excellent vintage condition with respect to age and use with no cracks, chips, or repairs. This is a striking piece of Murano art glass, created by master glass artist, that would be gorgeous modernist statement piece to add to your art glass collection.
Livio Seguso was born in 1930 in Murano, Italy where he still lives and works and is considered a master of contemporary glass. Seguso began his life-long love affair with glass at a very early age and was a pupil of Alfredo Barbini, who was his uncle. Seguso was fascinated by the inexhaustible appeal of this wonderful medium. He stayed as an assistant to Barbini until 1959 and then, in 1960, he was appointed maestro at Salviati & Co and became the ideal interpreter of the master, Luciano Gaspari. In 1969, he opened his own glass factory where he was both entrepreneur and sculptor. Seguso’s mastery of his medium was such that it allowed him to express himself completely without being hampered by the limits of craftsmanship. Livio Seguso reached his full artistic maturity in the late 70’s, when he totally abandoned the traditional Murano glassmaking techniques, and began to focus on clear crystal, which is changeable and ambiguous in its transparency and was the perfect medium for the artist’s imaginative vision. The 2019-2021 Livio Seguso exhibition at the Glass Museum in Venice dedicates a magical journey around Seguso’s many works, which are the result of a lifetime’s research and passion. And while his works continue to be shown and amaze his many fans, Livio Seguso, at the age of ninety, continues his work and research in his beloved.
