.A beautifully restrained studio pottery bowl with a substantial, sculptural form and softly speckled glaze.
Wheel-thrown in stoneware, the bowl has unusually thick, rounded walls that give the simple form a strong architectural presence. The warm camel-toned ground is scattered with pale blue and gray-blue speckling, creating a subtle, atmospheric surface that rewards close viewing. The glaze and softly irregular handmade form give the piece an appealing balance of refinement and organic character.
The underside bears an incised artist's monogram, appearing to read “SB” or “BS,” along with what appears to be “01,” likely indicating a 2001 date. The maker has not been identified. Three small unglazed contact marks on the underside are consistent with the firing process.
An understated piece of contemporary studio ceramics that works equally well as a functional bowl or as a sculptural object on a table, shelf or console.
Dimensions: approximately 6.75" diameter × 3.5" H.
Condition: Very good condition with minor irregularities inherent to handmade studio pottery. Please refer to photographs for details.
