Artists box was made during the second half of 19th century.
a lot of these boxes were owned by young ladies as at this time watercolour painting was actually a part of a young ladies education.
on the top of the box is impressed:
department of science and art. Reward.
the science and art department was a british government body which functioned from 1853 to 1899, promoting education in art, science, technology and design in britain and ireland.
the key for the lock is missing this piece has an attribution mark,
i am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity
