Winged Sun Disk Wall Pediment. 38" Wide x 7 1/2" High X 3" Deep.
Original Art Object. This wood Winged Sun Disk Pediment is more than a yard long and features a golden sun flanked by two blue cobras. In Ancient Egypt the cobra represented the goddess Wadjet and when a cobra was worn at the king's brow with its head raised and ready to strike, it was a symbol of power and protection. Winged Sun Disks can be found in many cultures throughout the world. Here, on the back of this relief, the artist, Mark Brophy writes about the personal journey he undertook when he searched for the meaning of this symbol.
